Rerouted - Keeping the Right Perspective

Objective - Students will learn the importance of perspective and will be challenged to embrace a godly perspective in all situations.

Key Scripture - Jonah 4:10-11 - "But the Lord said,'You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night. And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left—and much livestock?'"

Key Thought - Keeping a godly perspective will yield a godly response.

Lesson Summary - In this final lesson of our four-part series from the Book of Jonah called Rerouted: Lessons from a Reluctant Prophet, we used Jonah chapter 4 to evaluate our personal perspectives. Jonah showed a selfish perspective that resulted in anger, revealed his hatred, and left him wallowing in self-pity. God’s compassionate perspective was revealed through His mercy and patience with the Ninevites.

Students were challenged to adopt God’s perspective in all situations. Specifically, they were asked to actively seek to see things from God’s perspective this week. To do so, they were asked to daily pray a simple prayer.

“Dear God, help me to see things from Your perspective so my actions will be godly.”

They were asked to make a point to pray that one-sentence prayer when they find themselves with a decision to make, when they are in a tough situation, when they are struggling to understand someone else’s actions, or even when they are completely convinced that they are right.

If possible, take some time to talk with your student about having and keeping a godly perspective of things. Keeping a godly perspective doesn’t come naturally; having and keeping our personal perspective does. If we are going to see things from God’s perspective, we will intentionally have to seek His perspective.
