Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 34

Lesson 34 Dear Parents, Hello again! We’re already in week 34 of our year-long look at the big-picture story of the Bible called The Thread . It has been a great journey so far and I really hope your child has learned a lot and has enjoyed seeing how the Bible fits together as one big story. T his week, the lesson was entitled “ The Parable of the Prodigal Son ,” and it focused on helping students understand that the Prodigal Son is a parable that demonstrates the great love and joy Jesus has for those who return “home” to Him. We looked at the following Scripture passages: Luke 15:11-32 You’ll enjoy reading these powerful passages that demonstrate God’s love for His lost children. Next Steps . . . During the week set aside a few moments to discuss these questions with your teenager: ·          Is it hard for you to imagine God valuing you and loving you the way the parable of the prodigal son demonstrates? If so, why? ·          Is it hard for you to vie

Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 33

Dear Parents, This week we kept moving through our study of The Thread. O ur lesson was entitled “Peter’s Confession of Christ.” Peter’s confession was that Jesus was the long awaited Messiah and the Son of God. This was a pivotal moment in Peter's life, the lives of the disciples, and the growth of the Church. We talked about the role that confessions, or declarations, of faith play in the life of the church today and what it means for your student. That was one of the questions we tackled in our Bible study this week. Hopefully your student realizes that even at a young age they are a vital part of their church and the church at large. We looked at the following Scripture passages: Matthew 16:13-20 Ephesians 2:19-22 As you read these scriptures, think about what it means to be a part of the household of the Church, and your role in it today. Next Steps . . . During the week set aside a few moments to discuss these questions with your teenager: ·

Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 32

Dear Parents, I want to remind you that we are cruising right along in our yearlong study of the big picture story of the Bible, and how we see the Gospel woven throughout it. This week we talked about Jesus’ miracles. Although there are nearly 40 of Jesus’ miracles recorded in the New Testament, we focused in on one huge one, using it to talk about what a miracle is and why they matter. We looked at the following Scripture passages: ·          Mark 6:30-34, John 6:1-15 ·          Colossians 1:15-17 We used the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 as an example of what a miracle is: A miracle was Jesus’s way of, first, proving Himself to be God. Along the way, Jesus compassionately met people’s needs through the miracle itself. We challenged students to bring their needs to God, and invite Him to meet them (even needs that may need a miracle). Next Steps . . . During the week, set aside a few moments to discuss these questions with your teenager: ·         Why do

Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 31

Dear Parents, Hello again! We’re continuing in our study of The Thread , looking at the Gospel story throughout the entire Bible. This week’s lesson was a really awesome time of fellowship and conversation. I hope your child enjoyed it. This week, the lesson was entitled “Jesus Heals a Paralytic , ” and it focused on helping students understand that Jesus not only has the power to heal, but also the power to forgive sins. Your student was taught that we were dead in our sins, but God chose to give us life through Jesus’ death on the cross. They were challenged to express thanks and praise to God for bringing them from death to life. We looked at the following Scripture passages: Mark 2:1-12 Colossians 2:13-14 You’ll enjoy reading these powerful passages that tell the story of Jesus healing the paralytic, and the fact that Jesus brings us from death to life in the gospel. Next Steps . . . During the week, set aside a few moments to discuss these questions with yo

Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 30

Dear Parents, This week we covered lesson 30 in our one-year look at the big picture story of the Bible.   We discovered what it looked like when Jesus called the disciples to give up their day jobs and follow Him completely. They responded in complete obedience, and went on to become Jesus’ closest friends. He gave them a specific command to be “fishers of men,” and explained to them that they were going to need help. We still share that same call today. We are the “fishers of men” now and there are still plenty of fish in the sea who have not yet put their trust in Christ. Our students were challenged to evaluate whether this has been a priority in their lives, and brainstorm a simple way to share their faith. We looked at the following Scripture passages: ·         Matthew 4:18-22 ·         Matthew 9:35-38 Next Steps . . . Have you ever considered your responsibility to be a fisher of men? Can you think of someone that you know that needs to hear the message of Chr
