Incompatible - A Different Perspective

Objective - Students will learn that Scripture never contradicts itself and will study the Word of God contextually to handle perceived contradictions properly.

Key Scripture -Psalm 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Summary - This lesson was the third lesson of a four-part series on Apologetics called Incompatible: Defending the Faith Amid Disagreements. During this series, students will learn to defend their Christian faith with gentleness and respect. Your student learned that while many people accuse the Bible of having contradictions, these supposed contradictions are the result of not understanding the various passages of Scripture in their proper context.

As God’s Word, the Bible is faithful and consistent, and we must commit to studying it contextually so that we will understand it properly. We took four so-called contradictions in the Bible and saw them from a different perspective. In doing so, we shed light on them and discovered that they were not contradictions at all.

Your student learned the importance of setting aside time to study the Bible so they can be equipped to answer questions when it looks like the Bible contradicts itself. They learned the importance of studying each passage of Scripture in the proper context.

Take time this week to have a conversation with your student about the importance of spending time in God’s Word outside of church services and youth ministry meetings. Help your student by encouraging him or her to make time to read the Bible at home. Lead by example in the home by having your own personal quiet time in God’s Word and in prayer, and perhaps ask your student if they would like to read the Word of God together. If you need a good tool for having a daily quiet time with God, scan the QR code to see the Quiet Time journals that are available from Word of Life.
