Relationship Goals - The Pursuit

Objective - Students will understand how purity is to be pursued in all aspects of life and will identify areas in their lives where they must surrender to God’s standard for purity.

Key Scripture - 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

Summary – Today’s lesson was the first lesson of a four-part series on relationships. The title of the series is Relationship Goals: Navigating with Wisdom. When it comes to our relationships, purity needs to be at the foundation of all of them. It should be our goal in every relationship to pursue purity.

God calls us to be pure, which means to be “free from what pollutes or weakens; free from moral fault or guilt.” We spent a portion of the lesson focusing on sexual purity, but in reality, God calls us to be pure in all of our relationships.

We focused on being pure in our words, actions, thoughts, and motives. Students often hear the argument that sexual sin “doesn’t hurt anybody,” yet the Bible tells us that sexual impurity harms our own bodies. We challenged the students to avoid impurity and pursue purity.

In all honesty, every student must decide to pursue purity in their lives for themselves, but we challenged them to find someone who will help them in that pursuit. The students were also encouraged to examine their lives and surrender areas of impurity to God.

Sometime this week, take the time to read 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, 2 Timothy 2:22, and 1 Corinthians 10:31; then have a conversation with your student about purity. Offer to be a help to them as they strive to be pure.
