Jail Break - Freed by Forgiveness

Objective - Students will learn that accepting God’s forgiveness sets them free from sin and will be encouraged to live in this new freedom.

Key Scripture - Romans 6:11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Summary - Today’s lesson was the third lesson in a four-part series called Jail Break: Set Free From Sin. This series will focus on the doctrinal truth of sin, but more importantly, how we can live in freedom from it. A simple definition of sin is this: anything we think, say, or do that disobeys God.

Because of Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection from the grave, we are free from sin. We highlighted the fact that even if we don’t always feel free, we are free! We don’t have to live controlled by sin. Since we used the sixth chapter of the Book of Romans as the main text for the lesson, it would be helpful for you to read Romans 6:1-14. Some of the truths we learned are these:

We are dead to sin.

Sin doesn’t have any authority over us.

We are no longer under sin’s dominion.

We are not slaves to sin anymore.

We are forgiven of sin by God’s grace, freed from sin by Jesus Christ’s Resurrection, and victorious over sin by the Holy Spirit’s power. These statements are true! These statements are facts. They are not based on how we feel but rather on what God says!

Your student should have been given a list of practical steps on how to yield their sin to God so that they can walk in the freedom that God has given them. Ask them to share these steps with you so that you too can be free to live freely.
