Gone Viral - He gets us

Objective - Students will learn that Jesus understands, firsthand, everything we are going through and will be challenged to bring their struggles to Him in prayer.

Key Scripture - Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Summary - Today's lesson was the second lesson in a four-part series called Gone Viral: Jesus is Always Trending. Ever since He rose from the dead, the message of Jesus Christ has “circulated rapidly” throughout the ages of time. And make no mistake, Jesus is not just a trend that will one day fade away. Jesus is, and will always be, trending because He is the ultimate Trendsetter. Long before the phrase “gone viral” ever existed, Jesus led the way because He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).

In this lesson, we discovered that Jesus is the great High Priest, that He is 100% God and 100% man, and that He was tempted and remained sinless. Because He was human and endured temptation, He gets us!

We looked primarily at Matthew 4:1-11 to study the temptation of Jesus. The goal was to use the example of the temptation of Jesus to help us with our own temptations. Hebrews 4:15 reminds us that Jesus can sympathize with our struggles and Hebrews 2:17-18 reminds us that He was tempted so He could help us. Take the time this week to read Hebrews 2:17-18, 4:15, and Matthew 4:1-11 so you can connect with the truth that Jesus understands you.

But the lesson was more than just information reminding us that Jesus understands. Students were encouraged to bring whatever they are struggling with to God in prayer because He understands. This week take the time to connect with your student to ask about their struggles. It may be awkward, but ask them about the things they are tempted to do, the anxiety they have, or the frustrations they feel. Offer to pray together with your student about their struggles.
