It's Game Time - Serve It Up

Objective - Students will learn how to sacrificially serve others and will be challenged to follow Christ’s example of serving.

Scripture - Matthew 20:25-26 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.”

Summary - Today’s lesson was the third of a four-part series on Christian Basics called It’s Game Time: Working Together to Win. In this lesson, we explored how to serve others like Jesus did. The Son of God took on the role of a servant to care for the many needs around Him. Just like Jesus cared for the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional needs of those around Him, His followers should do the same.

The goal of this lesson was for students to learn how to sacrificially serve others and to challenge them to follow Christ’s example of serving. We discovered that the true definition of greatness has to do with how you serve others. This is a vital aspect to the life of a believer, but it can take some time to develop. As a way to better connect with what the students learned, take the time to read Matthew 20:18-28.

After reading Matthew 20:18-28, take the time this week to talk with your student about how greatness and service are connected. Here are some ways to help your student continue to grow, apply, and continue this conversation at home.

Ask them what it means to serve like the Savior.

Brainstorm ways that you can serve as a family.

Make a choice to serve someone as a family this week.

Actively encourage your student to serve like the Savior.
