Stand Tall - Determined to Stand

Objective - Students will learn that God is with them through the difficulties of life and will be challenged to develop a determination to trust God with their lives.

Scripture - Daniel 3:17-18 “If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

Key Thought - Develop a determination that displays divine trust.

Lesson Summary -

Today's lesson was the third lesson of a four-part series entitled, Stand Tall: Staying Strong Through Adversity. It is actually a study from the first half of the biblical Book of Daniel. In it, we are discovering how Daniel and his friends stood tall for God as God’s purposes were worked out in their lives.

In this lesson, your students learned about the determination of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to stand for what was right and to trust God completely. Due to their determination to only worship the one true God, they were sentenced to death by fire. King Nebuchadnezzar had them thrown into a fiery furnace for refusing to practice idolatry. Through this, they showed that they would follow God no matter what because they trusted Him implicitly.

Not knowing what God would do, they had to accept God’s way of deliverance, which for them meant entering the fire but not being harmed. The power of God to save them in this way astounded King Nebuchadnezzar so much so that he praised God and recognized Him as the “Most High” God.

Your student was challenged to make a determined effort to trust God with different aspects of their life. They were asked to state, “I’m going to trust God with my _________________,” and write that in their Quiet Time or devotional journal. Ask them how they plan to develop a determination to trust and honor God this week. Then, throughout the week, take steps to help them honor God in that area.
