Home Inspection - Building on a Strong Foundation
Objective - Students will learn the importance of building
their lives on a strong foundation and be challenged to live in obedience to
the Word of God.
Scripture - Matthew 7:24-25 Therefore whoever hears these
sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his
house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew
and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
Today we started a new four-part series entitled Home
Inspection: Is Your Foundation Strong? The topic throughout the series is
integrity: living a life consistent with biblical principles. In our lesson, we
shared two important truths: we need a strong foundation for our lives, and we
need to have an inspection of our lives.
In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus shared a story of two people and
compared them to a wise builder and a foolish builder. Jesus’ story was about
two types of people.
Person #1: The person who hears what Jesus says and does
something about it.
Person #2: The person who hears what Jesus says and doesn’t
do anything about it.
These two types of people are compared to two types of
builders.
Builder #1 builds his house on a solid foundation (the
rock).
Builder #2 builds his house on a sandy foundation (the
sand).
Jesus said that Person #1 is like Builder #1, and Person #2
is like Builder #2.
If you hear the words of God and do something about it, you
are like a wise person.
If you hear the words of God and don’t do anything about it,
you are like a foolish person.
When the storm (hard times and challenges) came, the house
of the wise man stood firm and the foolish man’s house was destroyed. We
challenged your student to carefully evaluate which foundation their life is
built upon.
Building on a Strong Foundation
You can have a great conversation with your student asking
them how they will devote themselves to biblical principles and live a life of
integrity.
Your student was asked to pick a biblical principle
discussed in the lesson to devote themselves to this week.
Principle #1: I will only enter a dating relationship with a
devoted believer.
(2
Corinthians 6:14)
Principle #2: I will choose to please God rather than man.
(Galatians 1:10)
Principle #3: I will find my identity in Christ alone.
(Ephesians 1:5-6)
Principle #4: Search the Scripture for a principle that
specifically applies to your life and choose to obey it. Find out which
principle they chose and purpose to help them succeed.
