Walking in the Spirit - Parent Connection

Objective - Students will understand what it looks like to walk in the Holy Spirit and be challenged to yield their lives to His guidance and control.

Key Scripture

Galatians 5:16 - I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Key Thought - You can win the fight through the Spirit’s might.

Lesson Summary - Today's lesson was the final lesson in a four-part series about the Holy Spirit entitled Never Alone: Walking in Step with the Spirit.  What a great thought! Those who believe in Jesus are never alone. We have the Holy Spirit. This week we discussed the significance of living a life yielded to (walking in) the Holy Spirit.

As you surely know, students face an enormous amount of pressure to give in to the sinfulness and self-indulgence of this world. Victory can be had, but it is only available through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the life of the believer. Walking in the Spirit requires purposeful, moment-by-moment yielding to God’s guidance, and as we walk with Him, step by step, He will give us victory and produce His fruit in our lives.

Your student was challenged this week to walk in the Holy Spirit, day by day, moment by moment. They were asked if they would yield themselves to the Holy Spirit every day and allow Him to empower and control their lives. They were challenged to start each morning for the next two weeks praying the following prayer:

“Dear God, as I start my day, I surrender my heart, my mind, and my will to Your Spirit because I admit that I can only win the fight through the Spirit’s might.”

Will you also consider praying this prayer every day? If possible, pray it together with them.
