Settled! - Parent Connection
Objective - Students will learn that the sealing of the Holy Spirit guarantees their eternal life and will be encouraged to live with confidence knowing their salvation is settled.
Key Scripture –
Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also
trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in
whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise who
is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased
possession, to the praise of His glory.
Key Thought - Your
salvation is settled if you’re sealed by the Spirit.
Lesson Summary - Today’s lesson was the third lesson in a
four-part series about the Holy Spirit entitled Never Alone: Walking in Step
with the Spirit. As a follower of Christ, we are never alone because we
have been given the Holy Spirit. For this lesson, we talked about another
aspect regarding the Holy Spirit called the sealing of the Spirit.
Have you ever doubted your salvation? Do you think your student has ever
questioned their salvation? We used the sealing of the Spirit to address these
doubts. We focused on three truths that can help anyone who might doubt their
salvation.
These three truths are:
1.
The
sealing of the Holy Spirit secures your standing before God.
2.
The
sealing of the Holy Spirit guarantees your inheritance in Heaven.
3.
The
sealing of the Holy Spirit empowers you to live with confidence.
After explaining these three truths, we applied them to a series of doubts
that believers sometimes express. The goal was for the students to learn that
the sealing of the Holy Spirit guarantees their eternal life and encourages
them to live with confidence knowing their salvation is settled.
Tonight, before you send your teen to bed and ask them if they have any doubts about
their salvation. Talk with them, listen to them, and have prayer with them. You
might be surprised how long you will chat.
If that doesn’t seem to work for you, the next time you’re in the car
together, turn off the radio and break the awkward silence by asking them how
they’re doing. If you get the standard “fine” answer, don’t settle. Let them
know that you got this Parent Connection sheet and saw that tonight’s lesson
was about doubting. Let them know that you care enough to ask them if they have
ever had any doubts about their salvation. If you have ever had doubts about
your salvation, talk with your student about them. Find out what they learned
from the lesson. If you have any questions about salvation, be sure to contact
us here at the church. We would love to talk to you about the salvation found
in Jesus Christ.
