God Had No Alter Ego - Parent Connection
Objective – Students will learn that God reveals
Himself consistently throughout Scripture as a loving, forgiving, and just
God—both in the Old and New Testament—and be challenged to mirror God’s
forgiveness to others.
Key Scripture –
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Key Thought –
“God has no alter ego.”
Lesson Summary –
Today’s lesson was the fourth lesson of a four-part series
called Evidence: Building a Case for the Existence of God. We have been looking
at the question, “Does God exist?” In this final lesson on the existence of
God, your student learned that God does not have an angry, vindictive alter ego
in the Old Testament. Instead, your student learned that God is loving, just,
and forgiving. We examined the Israelite conquest of Canaan to show that God is
actually just and merciful. We also saw how God’s forgiveness and Jonah’s
prejudice are displayed in the story of Jonah.
Your student was challenged to mirror God’s love and
forgiveness instead of seeking the punishment of others. Your student was
encouraged to read the Book of Jonah and pray for the strength to be more
forgiving like God. Read the Book of Jonah this week yourself and ask whether
you generally act more like God or more like Jonah.
