Lesson Summary -
Tonight’s lesson was the fourth in a four-part series called
Game Plan: A Strategy for Spiritual Growth. We are helping your student
understand the need to exercise the spiritual disciplines necessary to function
as a strong Christian in the game of life. In this lesson, we discussed the
importance of Scripture memory as well as some best practices for memorizing
Scripture. We discovered that when we memorize Scripture, it has the potential
to change our lives.
We talked about the significance of allowing Scripture to
purify our hearts (keep us from sin) and to guide our lives. Ask your student
to share with you some of the practical techniques that they learned to aid
with Scripture memory. Methods we discussed were rote memorization (repetition,
constant exposure, writing, speaking), singing, and Scripture memory apps. In
all of these methods, we also talked about the importance of understanding the
verse you are trying to memorize and remembering the verse reference as well as
the verse.
The students were challenged to think of a topic of
importance to them and then find a verse of Scripture to memorize on that
topic. For example, if your student wanted to share the Gospel with a friend,
he/she might memorize John 3:16 or Romans 6:23. If your student was struggling
with integrity, he/she might memorize Proverbs 10:9 or Proverbs 12:22. Ask your
student what verse they chose to memorize this week. Take the time to memorize
that verse with them.
