For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Key Thought-

Kill sin or it will kill you.

Lesson Summary-

Today’s lesson was the third lesson of a four-part series called, Road Trip - Destination: Holiness. In this series, we have been taking a road trip of sorts that is guided by the Word of God. We have been studying the doctrine of “sanctification,” which is “the work of the Holy Spirit to make believers more like the Lord Jesus Christ.” Since our intended destination is holiness, this road trip will not end when the lessons are finished but will help the students get on the right path.

In the first two lessons of this road trip, we learned that we should be paying attention to the warning signs that God gives us in Scripture and that if we begin to run in the wrong direction, then we need to repent to make a U-turn. This lesson specifically talked about avoiding the hitchhikers on the road of life. For fun, we referred to them as sin-hikers.

Anything that goes against God and His Word is sin and we should get rid of it as quickly as possible. In fact, the Word of God instructs us to mortify the flesh, to put sin to death, to kill it before it destroys our lives.

We learned that in order for that to happen, we must yield to the Holy Spirit on a daily basis and set our minds on the things of the Holy Spirit. This can be summed up by us seeking God’s will and obeying His Word.

Your student was challenged to recognize one sin in their life and choose to put it to death this week. Ask them if they would be willing to allow you to help them work to kill that sin in their life. As a way to connect with your student on this topic, choose a sin in your own life and let your student know that you will be working to kill that sin in your life this week.
