Tough Topics - Flee to Fight

Objective - Students will learn that they are not alone in experiencing temptation and will develop a biblical practice of fleeing what tempts them.

Key Scripture - 1 Corinthians 10:13 - "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

Key Thought - Run from sin to win.

Lesson Summary

Today’s lesson is part of a four-part series called Tough Topics. In this lesson, students were taught a biblical approach to temptations. We observed that temptations are universal (“common to man”) and that even Jesus was tempted while on Earth, though He never sinned.

In our temptations, we saw how God is always faithful to us and always present with us, especially in our greatest times of need. Finally, we learned that the path to victory against temptation is to flee from sin. Although we may endure temptations, God always makes a “way of escape,” but we have to make the decision to run away.

To practically apply this lesson, students were taught a method to overcome temptation through God’s Word that was developed by The Freedom Fight Ministry. This method involves taking the time to breathe deeply, remembering the truth of God’s Word, making a call to an accountability partner, and escaping the situation altogether. As a way to help you understand the truth that your student learned in this lesson, take the time to read 1 Corinthians 10:13 and 2 Timothy 2:22.

At the end of the lesson, students were guided to have an accountability partner to whom they can go for help during a time of temptation. You might ask your student if they have an accountability partner and who it is. This can open the line of communication as they walk with them through temptation. If they don’t have an accountability partner, consider being that partner for them or helping them find a trusted accountability partner.
