Lesson Summary -
Tonight’s lesson was the third in a four-part series called
Game Plan: A Strategy for Spiritual Growth. We are helping your student
understand the need to exercise the spiritual disciplines necessary to function
as a strong Christian in the game of life. In this lesson, we discussed the
importance of personal spiritual disciplines and how they impact the lives of
every believer.
Setting inwardly focused goals—such as church attendance,
quiet time, Scripture memory, and reading books—helps to deepen our personal growth
and walk with the Lord. Setting outwardly focused goals—such as serving,
inviting friends, having Gospel conversations, and discipling others—helps to
strengthen not only our personal growth but also our impact on God’s kingdom.
We challenged the students to write down their goals for
eight different spiritual disciplines. But setting a goal only expresses what
someone hopes to do. Discipline is the bridge between hope and reality. So, we
asked your student to cross that bridge by choosing to discipline themselves to
godliness.
Ask your student to share with you some of the goals that
they have committed to this year. Ask them how you can encourage them to stay
disciplined enough to make their goals a reality.
