The Best Plan

Objective - Students will learn God’s plan for marriage, the family, and morality and will be challenged to view sexuality in a way that pleases God.

Key Scripture - Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Key Thought - God’s plan is the best plan!

Lesson Summary - Tonight’s lesson was part of a four-part series called “Deal With It: A Biblical Approach to Tough Topics.” In tonight’s lesson, we took the principles from Scripture and applied them to the topic of homosexuality. The topic of homosexuality is a polarizing topic in our society. There are many voices in our society that are willing to share their opinions, but the majority doesn’t determine morality. Just because someone has an opinion doesn’t mean that the opinion is correct. We need to see what the Bible says because the Bible is not just an opinion; the Bible is the standard for morality written by the One Who created sexuality in the first place. Tonight, the students learned that God holds the standard high, never ceasing to call sin, sin, and when we fail to meet His standard, He provides for us a way to have the righteousness of Christ applied to our lives no matter what sin we have committed. The students were encouraged to evaluate their opinion of homosexuality and see if it is in line with God’s plan. If they have expressed hate for someone who is a homosexual, they were encouraged to repent of that sin. If they have been distorting the idea of love to justify the homosexual lifestyle, they were encouraged to stand for the truth while extending the love of Christ to others. If they were struggling with feelings of homosexuality or have engaged in homosexual acts, they were encouraged to run to Jesus to find help or forgiveness. Everyone was encouraged to find a way to share the love of Christ with someone this week. As a parent, take the time to engage in a conversation with your child about the topic of homosexuality.
