 Accountability 101

Students will understand the importance of accountability and be encouraged to begin an accountability relationship with someone who will help them grow to be more like Christ.

Ephesians 4:15

Call each other kindly to Christ-like living.

Tonight’s lesson was the first lesson in a four-part series called “101: Back to Basics.” The four lessons in this series deal with basic topics that every follower of Jesus should learn to master. This week’s lesson dealt with a Christian basic: Accountability 101. Your teen was encouraged to find a partnership where they can call each other kindly to Christ-like living.

Using the basic questions of what, why, how, when, and where, we opened the Word of God and laid out the biblical principles for the type of friendship and community that is needed for an accountability partnership.

It would be very helpful to follow up with your students and ask them if they’ve thought through who that person would be for accountability. They were challenged to pray each day at noon for God to lead them to the right person who will encourage them to live in a Christ-like manner.

We encouraged them to keep you as the parent/guardian in the loop when it comes to this type of relationship. If they are having trouble deciding, consider offering some suggestions of mature peers who might be willing and able to hold them mutually accountable. Maybe even nudge them a little further and ask if they’ve spoken to that person.
