Lesson Summary

The lesson tonight was the third lesson in a four-part series called “Jesus: Prophet, Priest, King, Intercessor, Mediator, Man, Eternal God, Unchanging King, and So Much More Than You Ever Thought.” Throughout this series, we have been exploring who Jesus is. This week, your teen learned about the importance of Jesus as a steadying influence in their lives.

Life can be unsteady and confusing sometimes, and we all look for something to steady us, whether that is a significant other, money, a position of influence, or a job. Ultimately all of these things fail us. Your teen learned two specific characteristics of Jesus that can be a solid, steadying influence in his/her life.

Jesus is eternal.
Jesus has always existed, even before creation began. Because He is outside of time, He can see both our beginning and our ending. His wisdom is above all others.

Jesus is unchanging.
More than just eternal, Jesus is trustworthy because He does not change. The Bible reveals Him to be a good God. He can be trusted to do what is right.

Your teen was challenged to pay attention to his/her actions and see what they tell him/her about who, or what, he/she trusts. Also, your teen was challenged to consider how acknowledging God’s eternal presence in their lives would impact his/her choices and decisions, to see how it can bring a sense of stability.

Consider where you place your trust. Are you looking to money, influence, or another person to be the steadying influence in your life? This week, pay attention to where you are putting your trust. Talk with your teen about how each of you can trust in the eternal, unchanging God
