Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 43


Dear Parents,
Hello parents! This week we were in our 43rd lesson of The Thread series. It’s been cool to see our students engaging with the big-picture story of the Bible for this long. This week’s lesson was entitled “The Murder of Stephen and Persecution.” We looked at the stoning of Stephen and how it sparked the widespread persecution of Christians. While that sounds like a bleak topic, we got to see how the Lord used the scattering of Christians during that time to spread the Gospel to different regions.
We then looked a little deeper at Jesus’ promises that His followers would experience mistreatment on His behalf. That, too, sounds bleak, but Jesus assured us that while we have trouble in this world, He has overcome the world. These are the passages we looked at during this week’s lesson.
We looked at the following Scripture passages:
  • Acts 6:8-8:3
  • John 15:18-21; 16:33

As you read these scriptures, think about the lives we live today and what it means for us to experience mistreatment from the world because we follow Jesus.

Next Steps . . .
During the week set aside a few moments to discuss these questions with your teenager:
·         What are some things we learned from Stephen and the attitude and perspective he had as he was being killed?
·         Have you ever been mistreated because of your faith? Tell me about it.
·         Does Jesus’ promise that He has overcome the world resonate with you? How does it give you confidence as you go about your day-to-day life?

Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 20

Dear Parents, This week in The Thread study, we looked at a new perspective. While we know that God’s grace is the only solution for our sin, it is important that we recognize God desires our obedience. In this lesson, titled “The Rise and Fall of Solomon,” students looked at God’s covenant with Solomon. Just as with generations before him, Solomon learned that God disciplines us when we are disobedient. By comparing Solomon’s story with the words of Jesus, students clearly saw that throughout time God has singularly desired our whole heart! We looked at the following Scripture passages: 1 Kings 1:28-30; 3:4-15; 9:1-9; 11:1-13 John 14:23-24 While the whole story of Solomon is fascinating, these passages will help you see the highlights that were studied. Creative Discipleship Challenge Details

  Hey Parents! Thanks to our partnership with Word of Life we are excited to announce that students will again be invited to participate in our Creative Discipleship Challenge (CDC) this year.  Those who complete the CDC are awarded the following: A Free Word of Life Camping Experience A Free Tickey to a night of Reverb with WOL the following year  Scholarship to Various Christian Universities (for details click here ) We love this challenge because it provides a great structure to encourage students in the spiritual disciplines God encourages all of his children to grow in. 1 Timothy 4:7 says, "Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.” We want to champion students getting serious about that journey.  The goal is to focus students to develop habits of spiritual discipline in two key areas, growing their faith and sharing their faith.
