Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 17
Dear Parents,
Hello again! This week was our 17th lesson in “The Thread,” and we’re still charging through our look at the big picture of the Bible. It is amazing to see how each story helps us better understand that God’s plan from the very beginning was to send Jesus.
This week’s lesson was entitled “Samuel Anointing David.” We looked at the story of David becoming king of Israel. He was an unlikely choice; in fact, his own family thought his chances of being chosen by Samuel were so slim they didn’t even remember to invite him to the meeting.
We looked at the following Scripture passages:
• 1 Samuel 16:1-13
• 2 Samuel 5:1-5
• Philippians 2:5-11
Next Steps . . .
During the week set aside a few moments to discuss these questions with your teenager:
• I heard your group discussed the difference between outward appearance and inward character. How are they different? Which do you think is more important?
• God chose David when no one else would have. How does that make you feel about your own life? What does it mean to you personally that God often chooses unlikely leaders?
• In what ways is Jesus an unlikely King? How does it make you feel to know that He came as a servant, not as a powerful warrior?
I hope this resource is a useful tool for you and your student. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to contact me.
