Parent Letter - The Thread Lesson 5, and Upcoming Events

Dear Parents,

Hello again! Our group is still marching through the big-picture story of the Bible, and loving every lesson.  This week, the lesson was entitled, “Abraham and the Birth of a People.” The lesson was all about how God chose Abraham to be the father of His special people, and how, through faith in Jesus, we are adopted into God’s family.

We looked at the following Scripture passages:
·         Genesis 12:1-5a
·         Genesis 15
·         Genesis 21:1-7
·         Galatians 3:25-29

I encourage you to read this passages, so you can clearly see the connection between what God did through Abraham to establish His own people, and what God has done through Jesus to bring more people into His family.

Next Steps . . .
During the next week as you have time to talk with your student, consider asking the following questions:
·         In your lesson this week you discussed God’s faithfulness to His promises. What difference does it make to know that we can trust God to do what He has promised?
·         What does it mean that we’ve been adopted into God’s family? How does that make you feel?
·         Why do you think God chose to adopt us into His family?

Elevate Wednesdays

We just started to next aspect of our Discipleship 101 series this past Wednesday by turning from a study of the idea of discipleship to a "case-study", in the book of Acts. We explored Acts 1 & 2 in this first installment of our survey of Acts. We discussed concepts like the Baptism of the Spirit and Christian Baptism by immersion. If you think your student might have questions about these topics this would be a great week to follow up with them. By the end of the lesson we conclude that a disciple was someone who 1.) receives power from God for obedience 2.) Enjoyed God's presence 3.) is part of a new people, who are supposed to live differently.
