KNOWING JESUS AS FRIEND Objective : Students will understand the incarnation of Christ and be challenged to seek growth in their friendship with Him. Key Scripture : John 15:15 Key Thought : What a friend we have in Jesus! Lesson Summary : Tonight, we finished a series called, “Knowing Jesus: God, Messiah, Creator, Friend.” We highlighted the fact that Jesus came to earth and became a human while still maintaining His deity. This is called the incarnation. Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. The GOD MAN desires a relationship with us. It is this friendship with Jesus that we highlighted in the lesson tonight. Your student was challenged to begin a relationship with Jesus, or, for students who have already trusted Christ as Savior, they were challenged to strengthen their relationship with Jesus. Truly, we have a friend in Jesus. Make a point this week to ask your student about his/her relationship with Jesus.

NEVER A DULL MOMENT Objective : Students will see the importance of accountability and be challenged to make a choice to intentionally get involved in an accountability relationship.     Key Scripture: Proverbs 27:17 Key Thought : Be sharp, not dull. Lesson Summary : Tonight’s lesson is part of a four-week series on Christian basics. The series is called “simple: basic truth for a complicated world.” Each of the lessons in this series deals with a simple truth that every follower of Jesus should understand. In this lesson, your student learned about the importance of being “sharpened” in their spiritual walk through accountability and accountability partners. At the end of the lesson, each student was challenged this way: 1.     Identify one area of your spiritual life where you would like to be sharper. 2.     Approach your small group leader tonight and ask him/her to contact you this week to d...

Objective : Students will understand that Jesus, as the Creator God, sustains all things and be challenged to worship Him. Key Scripture: Colossians 1:16 Key Thought : Jesus is the Maker and Sustainer. Lesson Summary : Tonight, we taught the third lesson of four-part series called “Knowing Jesus: God, Messiah, Creator, Friend.” The first two lessons of the series focused on knowing Jesus as God and knowing Jesus as Messiah. This week we focused on knowing Jesus as Creator. We wrestled with the idea that Genesis 1:1 tells us that God made the world, but the New Testament tells us that Jesus was the Creator of the world. We reconciled those two ideas with the understanding that God is a Trinity. We drew on our knowledge from the first lesson in which we learned that Jesus is God. Tonight, we learned that not only is Jesus the Creator of all things, He is also the Sustainer of all things. All things were created by him, through Him, and f...

Objective: Students will understand the importance of memorizing Scripture and put what they are memorizing into practice. Key Scripture: Psalm 119:9 Key Thought : To make it stick, practice it!   Lesson Summary : Our lesson tonight is the fourth lesson of a series called “Game Plan: A Strategy for Spiritual Growth.” We compared memorizing Scripture with memorizing a playbook. Memorizing Scripture is one of the most difficult spiritual disciplines. It’s very difficult to get motivated, and it doesn’t help that we have so many other things that we constantly have to keep in our minds: soccer practice times, anniversaries, birthdays, passwords, etc. Tonight, students learned two reasons why it is important to memorize Scripture. 1. Scripture memory helps you defeat the enemy. Just as memorizing a playbook can help you defeat your opponent in the game, so Scripture memory helps us to defeat sin. Jesus used Scripture to defeat Satan’s ...

Objective : Students will see Jesus as the only one in history uniquely qualified to claim the title as God’s promised Messiah and will be challenged to trust Him alone for salvation and sanctification. Key Scripture : John 20:31 Key Thought : Jesus is the One and Only. Lesson Summary : Tonight’s lesson is the second part of a four-part series called “Knowing Jesus: God, Messiah, Creator, Friend.” Tonight, your student was presented with overwhelming evidence that Jesus truly is the Messiah, the anointed One of God. We examined the predictions from the Old Testament and discovered the fulfillments of those predictions as recorded in the New Testament. We also examined the science of probability and discovered that the probability of Jesus fulfilling the prophecies that He did was astronomical. But, He did fulf...
