Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 38

Dear Parents, Hello! We are in week 38 of “The Thread.” Thank you for your continued involvement with your student through the weeks. This week’s lesson was entitled “The Crucifixion and Burial of Jesus.” I believe your teenager’s perspective was deepened as they saw the endurance Jesus had to remain obedient during extraordinary circumstances.   The lesson’s purpose was to get students thinking about what Jesus endured for them—and what they are willing to endure for Him. Emphasis was placed on how Jesus joyfully endured unto death so that we could have life.    We looked at the following Scripture passages: Matthew 27:32-66 John 19:31-42 Hebrews 12:1-2 As you read these scriptures, imagine the suffering Jesus endured for all humankind. Then, take it one step farther by imagining the suffering you may have to endure for truly living as a Christ follower in every area of your life. Next Steps . . . During the week, set aside a few moments to discuss these que

Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 37

Dear Parents, Hello again! We’re having a great time studying The Thread in our group. The big picture of the Bible is really coming together for us, and each week we are learning more about Jesus as the central character. This week, the lesson was entitled, “Jesus’ Arrest and Trial.” We discussed how Jesus willingly laid down His life for us according to God’s plan. We spent some time considering how that unbelievable truth affects our lives. We looked at the following Scripture passages: ·         Matthew 26:36-56 ·         Matthew 27:11-26 ·         Isaiah 53:7-9 I encourage you to read these passages, so you can see how God was at work behind the scenes of Jesus’ arrest and trial. Next Steps . . . During the week, set aside a few moments to discuss these questions with your teenager: ·    How was God at work behind the scenes of Jesus’ arrest and trail? Is it possible for God to be at work behind the scenes during difficult times in our lives? ·

Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 36

Dear Parents, Hello again! Can you believe we are 36 weeks into our big-picture look at the story of the Bible? This week’s lesson was an amazing time of really looking into the depth and meaning of the Last Supper. This week, the lesson was about the last supper Jesus ate with His disciples. It focused on helping students understand what happened during this time and what it means to us. The Passover feast happened annually,   and was an important celebration to the Jewish people. It symbolized their freedom from slavery and the reality that the angel of death literally passed over their homes.   In this meal, Jesus helped His disciples understand that what He was about to do would atone for their sins and the sin of all mankind. His death and resurrection would bring freedom from sin and death forever. We looked at the following Scripture passages: ·          Luke 22:7-23 ·          1 John 2:1-2 You’ll enjoy reading these powerful passages that show us the power

Elevate Sunday Follow Up - Lesson 35

Hello again! We’re on week 35 of The Thread , and I’ve loved the conversations that have been happening in our group. I hope your teenager enjoyed it. This week, the lesson was entitled “The Raising of Lazarus,” and it focused on helping students understand that Jesus has power over death and the physical laws of our world, and that Jesus is the only way to salvation and life. We looked at the following Scripture passages: John 11:1-44; 14:1-6 You’ll enjoy reading these powerful passages that demonstrate that Jesus not only wants us to experience eternal life, but that He has the power and authority to give it to us. Next Steps . . . During the week, set aside a few moments to discuss these questions with your teenager: ·          Why were Martha and Mary upset with Jesus in the passage you read this week ? ·          What was Thomas worried about when Jesus told His disciples he was leaving? ·          What do you think Jesus’ conversations with Martha, Ma
